Exercise for Mental Health Group

Image
There isn't a person alive who doesn't understand that exercise is good for us. So if we all know this, why don't we all exercise? This group will begin by understanding why and how exercise is a great support for mental health and move into ways to begin and continue through the lifespan.  This group offers the opportunity to try out new activities while benefiting from the support of others.  Participants will learn more about how to keep a habitual exercise program while strengthening those strategies that support exercise enjoyment (the key to a life long habit).

Disconnecting Depression

Did you know there is no research supporting the old idea that depression is a "chemical imbalance"? So if it isn't a chemical issue then what is it? Depression can be a normal experience when one is disconnected from life.  Whether it is self, purpose, people, passion, or spiritual, disconnection can result in depression.  This group focuses on the reconnection of life while exploring what has lead to disconnection and how to help prevent and manage it in the future.

Exercise, Food, & Body

If you have ever joined a gym or tried a diet, you may have also experienced a negative regard for your body in the process.  Research does show that exercise environments may have a negative effect on body image through social comparison.  This workshop addresses the challenges of taking on a new or existing exercise or health regime without having to contend with the negative inner chatter of "not enough".  We will explore ways to shift perspective that may support a healthy relationship with both body and food. Topics will include; the perils of fitness and diet culture, the common snake oil that comes with social media influencers, and how to shift perspectives and motivations for healthy changes that will lead to good health without the body shame.

Emotional and Binge Eating Support

Probably one of the most common challenges is that of eating emotionally.  Whether you experience eating large quantities of food in one sitting, or find yourself standing at the kitchen counter mindlessly munching at midnight, disordered or problematic eating can be experienced by all of us.  If you feel a need for a change or would like to establish a more healthy relationship with food and eating, this group is for you.

Aging Well

Whether you are 20 or 100, this workshop is for everyone who wants to learn and make positive changes towards an active and healthy aging. We will examine all components of health, the neuroscience that supports health, and strategies that will support good health and reduce the risk of chronic disease, injury, and immobility as we navigate our lives well.  Topics will include; lifestyle factors, epigenetics, mental health, occupational wellbeing and retirement, interpersonal relationships, communication, and the importance of self-reflection. We will also navigate the stormy waters of snake oil and the false promises of the wellness, nutritional, and anti-aging industry.  There is no time like the present to start focusing on those little changes that have great influence on our health after 50.

Burnout Awareness & Prevention

Burnout usually isn't detected until it is too late.  It may sneak up on us without warning while it robs us of our vitality for life, our work, and everything that is important to us.  This workshop will examine what burnout is, the symptoms of burnout, why it happens, and (most importantly) what to do about it.  Taking from a neurophysiological approach, we will create tool kits for prevention, management, and crisis leaving participants with a plan of action and strategies that will help to support a sense of balance.  Topics include; lifestyle strategies, what real self-care is and isn't, emotional de-escalation strategies, communication, boundary setting, and much more!
